Location: Trumbull, CT

The controller has overall responsibility for all accounting and control matters for the company. The controller will develop and implement effective policies and procedures to maintain an effective internal control environment. The controller is responsible for the following activities: accounts receivable, credit & collections, accounts payable, working capital management, audit relations, accounting/internal controls, balance sheet and P&L account reconciliation process that will migrate the company to SOX 404 status over time. The controller also serves as the primary liaison to outside tax and making sure that all tax accounting and returns are completed in an accurate and timely manner.

 

Responsibilities

  • Month-end close in accordance with a consistent monthly timeline and checklist
  • Prepare and/or review and approve all journal entries impacting general ledger
  • Balance sheet reporting and analysis
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Accounting policies, travel policies
  • Banking relationships and bank covenant adherence
  • Owns/manages working capital
  • Concise variance analysis for all major movements in CAPEX, balance sheet and working capital accounts
  • AS and collections
  • AP/Disbursements
  • Vendor management/ACH conversion
  • Leads/manages accounting and commissions staff
  • Owns relationship with auditors (both financial statements and 401K plan)
  • GAAP expert and accounting position research
  • Owns relationship with outside tax
  • All insurance programs
  • Owns statutory reporting
  • Subject matter expert on QuickBooks and future GL system
  • Leads migration to new accounting system
  • Owns G/L chart of accounts
  • Leads migration to SOX 404 environment

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably with some years in a public accounting firm
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and either a CPA or well advanced to attaining CPA status
  • Experience working with accounting, payroll and other financial software packages
  • Experience leading a general ledger upgrade/conversion a strong plus
  • Experience in the health care sector a strong plus
  • Advanced Excel experience including VLOOKUP and pivot tables
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail required
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience leading and mentoring a team
